Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday announced the appointment of a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Shiva Shankar Lotheti to oversee the rescue operations in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel which collapsed partially on February 22, resulting in eight people, including two project engineers, getting trapped.

As the rescue operations entered 32nd day, the chief minister held a meeting with his cabinet colleagues including irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao, chief secretary Santhi Kumari and other senior officials to have a detailed review of the rescue operations inside the tunnel.
Eight workers got trapped inside the under-construction SLBC tunnel that passes through Nallamala forests near Domalapenta village in Nagarkurnool district on February 22. The workers include four labourers, two engineers and two operators.
