HC attacks BJP leaders for alleging conversion

The Madras high court came down heavily on BJP leaders without taking their names for suspecting religious conversion into the death by suicide of a 17-year-old student in Tamil Nadu in 2022.

The court also refused to quash the chargesheet filed against the hostel warden for allegedly abetting the girl's suicide.
Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai and his party leaders in January 2022 had alleged that the student studying in class 12 (in Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School) and staying in the school's hostel in Michaelpatti in Thanjavur district, died by suicide because she was allegedly pressurised by her hostel warden (Sagaya Mary) to convert to Christianity. The court passed the orders on December 16 on Mary's petition to quash the charge sheet against her.
