The Opposition grand alliance in Bihar on Friday strongly opposed the Election Commission of India's (ECI) proposed move to conduct a door-to-door special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, alleging the exercise was a "conspiracy" to help the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA in the upcoming assembly polls.

PATNA:

Addressing a joint press conference in Patna with alliance partners, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav claimed the ECI's move was a covert attempt by the ruling NDA to disenfranchise a large number of people — especially those from deprived sections of society — ahead of the state polls, scheduled for October-November this year.

Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera and CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, among others, also addressed the reporters.
