Gokhale Chose Not To Comply With Defamation Order: Puri To HC

Former diplomat Lakshmi Puri on Wednesday told the Delhi high court that Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmaker Saket Gokhale wilfully chose to not comply with the court's directive to publish an unconditional apology on social media and pay ₹50 lakh damages in a defamation suit.

Gokhale expressed his willingness to settle issues with Puri, a former assistant secretary general of the UN, but the latter's counsel refused the settlement offer, contending that the Rajya Sabha member had abused her without any basis. Puri also urged the court not to entertain TMC leader's plea seeking the recall of its directive.
