A total of 231 victims of the Air India plane crash have been identified through DNA tests, and the mortal remains of 210 of them were handed over to their families, a health official said on Friday.
AHMEDABAD: A total of 231 victims of the Air India plane crash have been identified through DNA tests, and the mortal remains of 210 of them were handed over to their families, a health official said on Friday.
According to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi, 10 families are expected to collect the remains of their loved ones in the coming days, while three bodies are awaiting air clearance and will be handed over to the families shortly. Eight families are still awaiting confirmation of DNA matches with other relatives.
"Of the 210 bodies handed over so far, 155 were of Indian nationals, seven were from Portugal, 36 from the United Kingdom, one from Canada, and 11 were among those who died on the ground due to the impact of the crash. Eight such bodies, which could be visually identified, were released without the need for DNA matching," Joshi said.
