Rapist finally faces justice with DNA link 50 years after attack

A WOMAN raped by a Devon man nearly 50 years ago says she remembers the attack "like it was yesterday".

David Sharp, of Copland Meadows, Totnes, was found guilty of one count of rape and one of indecent assault after a trial at Leeds Crown Court last Friday after a DNA breakthrough meant police officers were able to solve the cold case.

The offences took place in Leeds on October 2, 1977. It was the victim’s first night in Leeds after moving to the city for university.
