Call for people to behave after idiots climb up harbourside illuminations

ADDITIONAL barriers and security could be brought in for Torbay’s Christmas lights trail after special Christmas trees on the harbourside were damaged by people climbing on them.

CCTV video shared on social media shows two young women clambering up the spiral illuminated metal tree frames in the early hours last Sunday.

One scales the low fence around the tree and climbs about 20 feet to the top, holding on to the decorative star and waving to friends, one of whom films the escapade on a mobile phone.

Another young woman then shins up the tree to join her for the benefit of the friend filming below. She then climbs back down again.

The social media post says the frame of the tree was damaged in the incident and some of its lights have had to be replaced.
