A SOUTH Devon craft bakery business famed for its sourdough bread and delicious pastries has gone into administration leaving debts of nearly £100,000 unlikely to be paid.

- by WILLIAM TELFORD william.telford@reachplc.com @DevonLiveNews

The Almond Thief Ltd ran popular bakeries in Totnes, Dartington and Plymouth, but has gone into liquidation owing money to the tax authorities, dozens of small businesses and an unpaid Covid loan.

The company entered a creditors' voluntary liquidation after attempts to sell the business came to nothing. Directors blamed the burden of loans taken out during the Covid pandemic and a slump in profitability for the company's demise. The Almond Thief Ltd was incorporated in October 2018 and opened outlets at Shinners Bridge Workshops in Dartington and in Rotherforld Square in Totnes. In late 2022 it expanded into Plymouth and opened in a corner shop in Looe Street.
