TN verdict does not apply to Kerala, says Centre

The federal government has informed the Supreme Court that its recent judgment regarding the role of the governor in Tamil Nadu does not apply to the Kerala case.

Kerala filed a writ petition in 2023 against its governor for delaying decisions on bills passed by the State Legislative Assembly.
The Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that their circumstances and issues are distinct and deserve separate consideration.
On Tuesday, the apex court agreed to hear the matter, scheduled it for May 6, with the consent of the state’s counsel, KK Venugopal.
Early this month, the top court held that Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi's action of sitting on the bills for months without granting assent was unconstitutional.
