Qatar meet urges legal measures against Israel

Arab and Muslim leaders called on Monday for reviewing diplomatic and economic ties with Israel after its unprecedented attack targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar, according to a draft statement seen by media.

The summit in Doha adopted a joint statement that it has yet to make public, but in a draft seen by media, it called "upon all States to take all possible legal and effective measures to prevent Israel from continuing its actions against the Palestinian people, including by ... reviewing diplomatic and economic relations with it, and initiating legal proceedings against it."

Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, stated that his country's capital, Doha, was subjected to a treacherous Israeli attack which shocked the entire world.

"When the treacherous attack occurred on September 9, the political leadership of Hamas was studying an American proposal that it had received from us and the Egyptians. If Israel wants to assassinate the political leadership of Hamas, then why does it negotiate with it?," Sheikh Tamim asked during his keynote address to the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, which Qatar hosted on Monday to discuss the response to the Israeli aggression on it.

"If you wish to insist on the liberation of hostages, why then do they assassinate all negotiators?"

The summit convened with the participation of Arab and Islamic leaders, heads of state, and senior officials.
