Nipah alert in three Kerala districts after suspected cases

Kerala Health Department has issued an alert in Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad districts after two Nipah virus cases (one confirmed) were reported in the state, Health Minister Veena George said.
Preliminary tests conducted at the Kozhikode and Malappuram medical colleges had indicated possible Nipah infections. Following protocol, samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for confirmation. In the case of the patient from Palakkad, the NIV in Pune confirmed the infection. The government has directed immediate implementation of preventive measures, even before the test results were out.
