Man jailed, fined for stealing Ferrari in Dubai

Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab in absentia to three years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs780,000 after he and an unknown woman conspired to deceive a European and seize his luxury Ferrari, valued at the same amount of the fine.

The defendants tricked the victim into believing in a fake sale deal using a forged manager's cheque.

The court also acquitted two Arabs who were exploited by the defendant in defrauding the victim after luring them to transport him during the crime without their knowledge.

Earlier, a European reported to the police that he had been defrauded and his vehicle seized in exchange for a forged cheque.

He stated that he had put his car up for sale through a dedicated website, and a woman with a Gulf accent contacted him expressing her desire to buy it.

They agreed that the vehicle be inspected and the sale procedures be finalised at the vehicle registration department in the Al Barsha area, he said.
