Kerala assesses US tariff impact on exports from the state

Kerala, which largely exports marine products, spices and garments to the US, has started attempts to overcome the Trump tariff impact on its economy.

The communist-ruled southern state intends to incorporate detailed suggestions from commercial sector leaders as part of a comprehensive memorandum to be submitted to the federal government.

P Rajeev, the state's industries minister, said the memorandum will address strategies to mitigate the economic setbacks stemming from the 50 per cent duty on various imports from India.

At a meeting convened by the industries department, over 100 representatives from export-oriented sectors, including textiles, seafood, and handicrafts, presented ideas.
