Hundreds of top officials 'embezzled' BISP funds

A subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been informed that hundreds of government officers and bureaucrats have embezzled funds meant for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) beneficiaries.
The panel directed that criminal charges be filed against the officials involved, ranging from Grade 17 to Grade 22.
Moin Amir Pirzada chaired the subcommittee meeting that reviewed audit objections relating to the Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division, Benazir Income Support Programme, and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.
It was informed that government employees, pensioners and even their spouses had illegally received Benazir Income Support Programme payments.
