Ashas trim hair in protest against govt apathy

Emotions ran high at the protest venue of Kerala’s women community health workers on Monday as dozens cut their hair, and some even shaved their heads in defiance.

Despite the strong display of solidarity, the authorities remain unswerving to meet their demands for improved pay, better retirement benefits, and official recognition.

Some of them wept as their colleagues removed their carefully groomed locks in the emotionally filled commencement to rise to live.

Hundreds of women joined them as they marched, circumventing the state’s fortified administrative headquarters, which housed ministers who continued to taunt them, holding out promises of little or no worth.
