In an unexpected political twist, India's Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, tendered his resignation on Monday night, jolting the country's political establishment and triggering a whirlwind of speculation.

The 74-year-old, who also serves as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, cited health reasons in his letter to President Droupadi Murmu, media reports said.

Yet, the timing - just hours after he presided over the opening of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and accepted an explosive impeachment notice against a sitting high court judge has raised eyebrows across party lines.
