Newborn rescued as trafficking racket busted

A 15-day-old newborn was rescued from a moving vehicle near Ahmedabad airport as the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and the city Crime Branch busted an interstate child trafficking network, officials said yesterday.

The operation was carried out following a tip-off, after which officers intercepted a car arriving from Himmatnagar near Kotarpur. The infant was found inside the vehicle and immediately handed over to a Child Health Officer for medical care and protection.
Four people were arrested during the raid, including Roshan Agarwal of Hyderabad, Sumit Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Vandana Panchal of Ahmedabad and the vehicle’s driver, Maulik Dave.
