Natural gas demand to be resilient amid growing demand for alternatives to coal

Natural gas now makes up roughly 70 per cent of Mubadala Energy’s production portfolio, a weighting that Chief Operating Officer Adnan Bu Fateem said reflects multiyear planning and a clear shift towards lower-emission fuels.

He described 2025 as a “pivotal” period for scaling the company’s production, broadening its geographic reach and strengthening its role in markets where demand for gas remains resilient.

The business operates in 11 countries and manages assets across upstream and midstream segments, positioning natural gas as both a commercial and strategic pillar.

Bu Fateem said Mubadala Energy views natural gas as a key fuel during the global transition, offering lower emissions than more carbon-intensive alternatives while remaining reliable for power generation, industry and chemicals. He noted that this balance supports countries seeking energy security without abandoning climate commitments. The company’s investments prioritize regions with stable long-term demand and access to export infrastructure, helping shield the portfolio from short-term price swings.
