Man who danced with daughter's boyfriend held for his murder

Aanchal 'marries' Tate's corpse after his death

Just seven months ago, Gajanan Balaji Mamidwar was seen dancing joyfully with his daughter’s boyfriend during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations in Maharashtra’s Nanded. Today, he is in police custody, accused of killing the same young man over an inter-caste relationship that his family allegedly pretended to accept before violently betraying him.

The victim, 20-year-old Saksham Tate, a Dalit, had been in a three-year relationship with 21-year-old Aanchal Mamidwar, who belongs to the Special Backward Class. A widely circulated April 14 video shows Tate, Aanchal, Gajanan Mamidwar, and friends celebrating together. In one frame, Mamidwar affectionately hugs his daughter as the couple smiles — an image that now stands in stark contrast to the tragedy that followed.
