HAMAS' INTERIOR MINISTRY DEPLOYS THOUSANDS OF POLICE IN AREAS WHERE ISRAEL WITHDREW

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians poured back into a shattered Gaza City on Saturday and yesterday, days after the guns fell silent.

Ceasefire in the war in Gaza was holding for the third day yesterday as aid agencies worked to rush in more desperately needed aid to the besieged territory under the truce deal.

Preparations were also underway for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.

Gaza's civil defence agency, which operates under Hamas' authority, said more than 500,000 people had returned by evening.
