AMBER weather warnings were issued yesterday as wintry conditions were anticipated to worsen across widespread parts of the UK.

Yesterday morning, a new amber weather warning was issued for snow in parts of Scotland covering Aberdeen; Aviemore, in the Cairngorms; and Ullapool, in Wester Ross. It began at 6pm last night and expires at 10am today, and forecasts “heavy snow” and travel disruption.

Separate yellow warnings for snow and ice were in place for Wales, Greater Manchester and southwest England, while much of the east coast of England was covered by a yellow warning for ice. A yellow warning for snow and ice covered much of Scotland, north of Glasgow.
