Point not enough as Town drop out of play-off places

GRIMSBY Town were held to a 0-0 draw at MK Dons in their final away game of the regular league season.

Results elsewhere meant that the Mariners lost seventh position to Salford City on goal difference after they beat fellow play-off chasers Colchester United 4-1.

However, AFC Wimbledon's defeat to Port Vale means a win for Town against them at Blundell Park on the final day, will take them into the play-offs at their opponents' expense.

Town threatened early when Doug Tharme threw short to Tyrell Warren on the right channel, with the latter breaking to the byline with the ball to deliver it low across goal, but there were no takers in the six-yard box to tap in as it went right through.

The hosts' first chance came in the 12th minute.

Jonathan Leko received the ball out wide and came inside onto his right foot, looking to bend the ball into the far corner with his shot, but there was not enough whip to get it inside the post.
