EMERGENCY SERVICES CALLED TO THE NORTH PROMENADE

- By MARK PAGE

THE Coastguard has issued a warning to "not put your life or the lives of others at risk" after a search was carried out for two young people who were "dodging the waves" in Cleethorpes.

Emergency services were called to the North Promenade area shortly after 9.30pm on Thursday after a member of the public reported two people were "putting themselves at risk on the slipway".

Cleethorpes Coastguard say the informant had initially driven to the Coastguard station to report the incident before returning to the scene.

A spokesperson said: "At that time, we could not confirm whether the casualties had walked off the slipway or had been washed into the water by waves splashing over the sea wall.

"The team conducted a search of the immediate area around the slipway, along the North Wall towards Suggitt's Lane footbridge, and from the scene back along the North Promenade towards the Pier. These searches proved negative, both along the promenades and in the water as far as visibility allowed."
