ROBBIE Savage's appointment as Forest Green's new manager follows the decision to terminate Steve Cotterill's contract following their play-off semi-final defeat last season.

Cheltenham-born Cotterill, 60, took his home-town club from the Southern League to League One and then managed Stoke City, Burnley, Notts County, Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest before just over two years in charge at Bristol City, guiding them to the League One title and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in his second season, accumulating 99 points in the process.

Spells at both Birmingham City and Shrewsbury Town followed for Cotterill before he returned to the West Country almost 18 months ago to take over the reins from Troy Deeney at Forest Green.
