Leader Lisa Council elects its first female chief

Councillor Colin Hay (LD, All Saints and Oakley) nominated Ms Spivey (LD, South Cerney) as leader of the authority for the next four years.

He told those present at Shire Hall at the annual meeting on May 21 that she will bring a more collaborative style of working to the council.

"I am really proud. I know she will bring the enthusiasm that I think this council needs in moving forward. It's great," he said.

"It brings a more collegiate style of leadership.

"It's a difficult time with all sorts going on.

"I have absolute confidence that Lisa and her style of working will be the right one."

Green councillor Chloe Turner (Minchinhampton) seconded Cllr Spivey's nomination and said she looks forward to a more collaborative leadership at the council.

Cllr Spivey's election was met with a standing ovation from the Lib Dem group and applause from most members.
