Fee fears Claims changes to car parks 'puts profit before people'

THERE are concerns the introduction of pay and display parking at two city centre car parks is aimed at catching out and fining motorists.

- Carmelo GARCIA Local Democracy Reporter

Gloucester City Council say they are upgrading parking at Kings Walk and Eastgate Shopping Centre by replacing the ageing barrier equipment.

Previously, motorists would take a ticket on entry and pay for parking on exit. However, this has now been changed and drivers will now have to pay and display their ticket in their vehicles.

The city council said the changes bring it in line with its other car parks and makes the service more reliable.

But Councillor Alastair Chambers (CI, Matson, Robinswood and White City) believes the roll out is "putting profit before people".

"This is nothing more than a ploy to confuse drivers and rake in more fines and penalties," he said.
