One of George's oldest rugby institutions is gearing up for a spirited revival.
The George Rugby Club (GRC), founded in 1883 and now standing 142 years strong, has survived wars, recessions, relocations and the changing tides of club rugby.
And despite a challenging 2025 season on the scoreboard, the green shoots of renewal are unmistakable.
Club president Jacques van Reenen says the year has brought tough results, but real hope. "We've had a large intake of new, young players who were thrown straight into the trenches," he explains. "They gained invaluable experience and have already become central to the growth and future direction of the club."
A highlight was the club's third team, a vibrant mix of youthful talent and experienced hands, who proudly lifted the 2025 Challenger Cup - a major morale booster for the GRC family.
