New night race to honour George's Comrades legend

Like so many great ideas, it started with a simple conversation - though not in a corner pub, but during an early-morning jog at Sun City.

George's Comrades maestro Louis Massyn and the Western Cape Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Ricardo Mackenzie, were discussing Massyn's recent presidential award for his remarkable achievements in the Comrades and Two Oceans Marathons. Somewhere among the steady rhythm of their footfalls, the minister floated the idea of adding a fun run to the upcoming George Sports Festival.

The idea lodged firmly in Massyn's mind.

Meanwhile, back home in George, the Rocket Coffee Shop's owner, Emmett Green, was toying with a similar thought - a way to give something back to the community. Conversations followed, connections were made, and soon the Outeniqua Harriers came aboard with Duppie du Preez steering the organisational helm.

And so a brand-new night race was born.
