Squad shaping up for new campaign
Frome Standard
|June 05, 2025
There have been plenty of comings and goings at Frome Town as they look to begin their quest for promotion back into the Southern League Premier Division South.
-
Danny Greaves' side endured a tough campaign in their first season back at step three of the non-league pyramid and are subsequently back in the Southern League Division One South for the 2025/26 campaign.
Looking to navigate their way out once again, the squad is undergoing a major overhaul.
Among those opting to leave Badgers Hill is Alex Monks, after spending seven consecutive seasons with the Robins and being the club's second-longest serving player behind skipper Sam Teale.
Monks followed Greaves from Bradford Town in 2018 and has since made 215 appearances and scored 13 goals. He was also named the club's Players' Player of the Year in 2024/25.
Greaves said: "I'm obviously very sad to see Monksy leave this summer. He has been with me for a large part of my managerial journey, starting at Bradford and over the past seven seasons at Frome.
"You know what you get with Monksy and he always gives absolutely everything on the pitch to win. He will be missed but, of course, we respect his desire to stay at step three and wish him all the best."
Monks added: "I would like to thank everyone associated with Frome Town for everything they have done for me while I have been here, from the management team to the volunteers. This really was like a second home to me and it was such a hard decision to leave after such a long time serving the club with over 200 appearances. However, with interest from step three clubs, I felt I needed to try and push myself to be the best player I can be."
Also leaving are Tom Richards, Matt Wood and Pierce Mitchell.
Mitchell had been planning to spend another season with Frome, but will now instead be relocating to London, while Wood is hoping to pursue his teaching career and more local opportunities having commuted from Devon last season.
