Hoddinott's best figures help to secure 100-plus win for Timsbury

A fine all-round display saw Timsbury win by 103 runs at Clevedon 2nd in Division One of the Bristol & District League to move up to second, with five wins and one defeat from seven games.

Opener Mark Sage was again in excellent form for the visitors, striking ten fours in his innings of 65 after Timsbury had been asked to bat. After his dismissal, and that of acting-captain Lew Redwood, the innings was at a crossroads at 121-4 before a rousing partnership of 99 between Paul Cracknell and Gary Pearcy reasserted Timsbury’s dominance.

In-form Cracknell struck eight fours and a six in his knock of 58, while Pearcy supported him well with 37 as Timsbury finished their 40 overs on 235-6.

In response, Clevedon made a good start despite an economic 2-22 from Liam Hosford. Clevedon reached 102-2, before the innings imploded with the remaining eight wickets falling for a mere 30 runs.

The main destroyer was Sam Hoddinott, who returned some of his best figures for the club with 5-31. Jon Strand claimed a couple of late wickets to see Clevedon hustled out for 132.

■It turned out to be a good day for the club with the second side winning by seven wickets at home to Thornbury 3rd in Division Six. After being put into bat, the visitors made a cautious start against the tight bowling of Russ King and Zach Cox.

A double bowling change then saw Timsbury take control. Ellis Hancock, on his first outing of the season, took 4-21 from his eight overs, while Freddie Hosford claimed 2-21. Two late wickets apiece for acting-captain Dan Hill (2-3) and Albie Sage (2-12) saw Thornbury dismissed for 80.

Timsbury made a poor start in reply, losing their first three wickets for just 15. Ben Saunder (44*) and Cox (18*) ensured there would be no slip-up, however, with an unbroken partnership of 68 to see Timsbury over line.

■ The third team sadly conceded their Division 9E tie at Bristol Lions 2nd.
