MPs’ income in spotlight in official interests register
Folkestone Herald & Dover Express
|February 19, 2026
KENT'S MPs have declared nearly £500,000 in financial interests since the start of 2025.
-
Declarations in the latest Register of Members’ Financial Interests, range from high-value media and advisory fees to international travel and political donations.
While some longstanding MPs have recorded hundreds of thousands of pounds in outside earnings and support, several of the county's newer representatives - including those in Dover, Folkestone, and Sandwich - have declared significantly lower figures, or no interests at all.
The disparity in declarations across the county is stark. Topping the list is Tom Tugendhat (Tonbridge), who recorded £191,295 across journalism, public speaking, advisory work, and extensive overseas travel.
Similarly, Laura Trott (Sevenoaks) declared £109,336, primarily linked to political staff funding and speaking engagements.
In contrast, several of Kent's newer MPs have focused almost exclusively on their parliamentary roles since their election in July 2024.
