Why It's Better Than Many Tiny SUVs, Including Punch & Exter
Indians are lining up for small SUVs, which, in FY25, formed 32% of the market (1,383,334 units sold in total car sales of 4,301,848 units, as per SIAM data).
But after driving the new Tata Altroz—a premium hatchback—we realised that the craze for SUVs is unnecessary, and hatches have more space, better ride & handling, and are better value for money.
What's the Altroz?
Direct rivals are Maruti Suzuki Swift and Baleno, and Hyundai i20. Priced from ₹6.89-11.49 lakh, ex-showroom, it's better value than most sub-4 metre SUVs (which are pricier), and is available in petrol, diesel, and CNG options.
