Ravneet Kaur appointed new CCI chairperson

THE CENTRE HAS appointed Ravneet Kaur as the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India, filling up the top post at the regulator after a six-month wait. A 1988 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service from the Punjab cadre, Kaur has been appointed for a five-year term. She will be the regulator's first woman chairperson.

The top post at CCI has been vacant since October 2022 when former chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta demitted office in October 2022. Since then, CCI Member Sangeeta Verma has been the acting chairperson. This was the second selection process initiated by the government to fill up the vacancy after Gupta.

Kaur, who will turn 60 in October, is at present posted as special chief secretary, food processing and in addition special chief secretary, jails, in the Punjab government. Amongst her peers, she is known for taking up challenges and has a wide experience in both the Centre and state administration during her 35year career.
