● Twin-cylinder tech, CNG in top variants boost sales

- VIKRAM CHAUDHARY

IN FY24, just 16% of cars sold by Tata Motors were powered by compressed natural gas - CNG, a fuel claimed to be cleaner than petrol and diesel - but in FY25 (YTD) this contribution has increased to 23%, and is rising.

The automaker has attributed this rise to its innovative twin-cylinder technology - which is now being replicated by carmakers like Hyundai - as well as the fact that CNG is being offered in all variants, and not just entry-level ones as other carmakers do.

Vivek Srivatsa, chief commercial officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility - previously the head of Marketing at Tata Motors - told FE that the twin-cylinder technology (launched with the Altroz iCNG in 2023) doesn't take up boot space.
