Rupee Halts Winning Run as Importers Step In, Peers Slip

THE RUPEE CLOSED lower on Tuesday to halt its seven-session winning run as importers stepped in to hedge liabilities at favourable levels, dollar inflows moderated and the regional peers of the currency slipped.
The rupee ended at 85.7550 against the US dollar, down 0.14%. It had risen to a year-to-date peak of 85.49 on Monday, and has so far gained about 2% in March.
MUFG has revised its view on the rupee to 'neutral' from 'cautious', and now expects it to end the calendar year 2025 at 87.50, stronger than the earlier forecast of 88.50.
