AFTER A RECORD purchase of 3.57 million tonne (MT) of oilseeds—soyabean and groundnut—in the 2024-25 kharif season, government agencies are aiming to increase their procurement of mustard, the biggest oilseed variety in terms of output, from last year's level as mandi prices are ruling around the minimum support price (MSP).

- SANDIP DAS

While the agriculture ministry has so far sanctioned purchases of 1.5 MT of mustard across key producing states under the price support scheme (PSS) for the 2024-25 rabi season, traders said mandi prices are expected to rule below the MSP of ₹5,950/quintal as the arrival of new crop picks up in the next couple of weeks.
