THE GOODS AND Services Tax (GST) Council meeting commencing on Wednesday will be considering a series of proposals to cut and abolish tax slabs on food items, agricultural machineries and fertilisers, a move that could brighten the prospects of the farming sector.

Sources told FE that several items, including ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk, paneer, pizza breads, khakhra, rotis and parathas are proposed to be exempted from GST, which currently ranges from 5% to 18%.
