Tata Steel gets ₹1,007-cr GST demand notice

TATA STEEL HAS received a showcause-cum-demand notice from the office of the commissioner (audit), Central Tax, Ranchi, over alleged irregular claim of input tax credit (ITC) between FY19 and FY23, the company informed the exchanges on Sunday.
The notice dated June 27 asks the company to explain why goods and services tax (GST) amounting to ₹1,007.54 crore should not be recovered from it under Section 74(1) of the Central and State GST Acts, read with Section 20 of the Integrated GST Act.
In addition to the tax demand, the commissioner's office has also sought interest on the said amount and proposed a penalty under applicable laws.
