Govt to buy 0.5 MT of tur to fortify depleted buffer

AFTER FIVE YEARS, the government is aiming to procure 0.5 million tonne (MT) of tur, or pigeon pea, at the minimum support price (MSP) in the 2024-25 season with the aim to boost depleted buffer and provide farmers with remunerative prices.
This would be the highest volume of purchase of tur, a premium pulses variety, in the last five years under the price support scheme (PSS). Prices of tur had ruled substantially above the MSP for several years.
