ANSWERS AWAITED
ONE YEAR AFTER the crash of Air India Flight AI-171 that killed 260 people, investigators are yet to determine what caused both engine fuel control switches to move to the cutoff position moments after take-off, with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Friday saying analysis of evidence and technical examinations remains underway.
In an interim statement issued on the first anniversary of the accident, the AAIB said it had made significant progress in examining aircraft systems, flight recorder data, engine-related components, maintenance records and operational documentation, but indicated that further technical evaluations and specialist examinations could still be required before a final report is released.
