Farm produce company makes appeal to help it keep going after downturn

Julie and Bela Corcutt, who run Veg in a Box in Clyst St Mary, explained on their Facebook page that times were tougher than ever, especially as their regular orders have started to dry up.

Julie and husband Bela live on a farm and are surrounded by produce and after making a veg box for a friend for his birthday one year, the idea of Veg in a Box was born. Many shoppers liked the concept of buying from a firm which supported local farmers and ensured they got the freshest fruit and veg delivered to their door on a regular basis.

While the owners found their feet during the hard times of the pandemic, like many other businesses, the years which have followed the lockdowns has not been easy and sometimes they have even found themselves dealing with the aftermath of storms.

However, in the social media post, the couple stated they only had two orders in for next week and things were looking dire.

Julie wrote: "Sadly it has got to the point where there are not enough orders coming in to run the business. I can’t pay rent, electricity or pay staff and hold stock without regular orders coming in each week. Two orders won’t keep us running sadly!
