SADLY, not for the first time, Hospiscare has made an urgent plea for donations, with the risk of services having to be cut further if it cannot bring in extra money.

The Exeter-based end-of-life charity faces a £800,000 deficit due to rising costs.

It comes just a year after the organisation had to cut bed numbers from 12 to eight on its specialist ward and reduce the weekend community nursing service due to a lack of cash.

Back then it was facing a £2.5 million shortfall, before a one-off grant from the Devon Integrated Care Board helped limit the issues to a degree.
