US envoy flies in with 'protect the civilians' plea for Israelis

ANTONY BLINKEN urged Israel today to take "concrete steps" to protect Palestinian civilians as the Israeli army reported "face to face" combat with Hamas fighters in the encircled Gaza City. The US secretary of state flew into the region for his third visit since Hamas terrorists slaughtered some 1,400 people in Israel, mainly civilians, on October 7. Israeli air strikes have killed more than 9,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
The Hamas raiders also took more than 200 Israelis and foreigners hostage into Gaza. The US military revealed that it has been flying surveillance drones over Gaza in search of the captives. Mr Blinken declined to go into detail about what "concrete steps" Israel should be taking to better protect innocent Palestinians, and he condemned Hamas for "cynically and monstrously" using civilians as human shields.
