LEVY INSISTS STAR STRIKER CAN WIN SILVERWARE AT SPURS AS HE BIDS TO KEEP HOLD OF HIS PRIZED ASSET
DANIEL LEVY has said he hopes Harry Kane will one day have a statue outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Spurs prepare for talks with the England captain over his future.
Kane recently became Spurs's all time top goalscorer, but he is yet to get his hands on a trophy with his boyhood club and will soon be entering the final year of his contract.
The 29-year-old has constantly said he is open to staying, but has made it clear he wants to compete for silverware and his future is uncertain.
Manchester United are interested in a summer move for Kane and, as things stand, it would be a surprise if he was rushing to agree a new deal, given Spurs have gone backwards since finishing fourth last season and are about to embark on a rebuild under a new manager. But Levy insists Kane can realise his ambitions at the club.
"He can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs," said Levy, speaking at the debating society of Cambridge University. "But being a legend is also important. The fact that he's top scorer for Tottenham, he's making history. I hope one day that there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium." Tottenham have not won a trophy since the 2008 League Cup and are no closer to ending their drought following a difficult season in which they sacked Antonio Conte.
