WEAPONISED competence is the gift I will be bringing this Christmas. I am generally quite ashamed of my general incompetence at home, in everything from DIY to cooking, though not so ashamed that I can't throw my elderly parents under the bus for it: both over-mothered and under-fathered, I'm a deadly combination of lazy and useless.
My partner and children are therefore condemned to live in a household where the skirting boards are unpainted, the garden's a death trap and my meals are entirely beige. However, all this changes for the Christmas dinner, when the glory hunting starts.
