Heineken takes hit on China brewer

GLOBAL brewer Heineken took a huge hit today from slowing Chinese markets and Europe’s washout summer, leaving its shares feeling the chill.
The Dutch giant cut the value of its 40% stake in China Resources, the country’s largest brewer, by €874 million (£739 million), pushing it into an overall first-half loss of €95 million.
The “impairment charge” related to a drop in the value of CR’s shares, “possibly reflecting concerns on the macroeconomic environment in China and its impact on consumer demand”, Heineken said.
