First grain ship leaves Ukraine port city after deal with Russia

A SHIP loaded with grain left the port of Odesa today for the first time since the war in Ukraine began.
It comes after Russia and Ukraine signed a deal, brokered by the UN and Turkey, to reopen Black Sea ports to resume grain exports needed to alleviate a growing global food crisis.
The Sierra Leone-flagged cargo ship, Razoni, loaded with more than 26,000 tones of corn, departed the port city in southern Ukraine for Lebanon early this morning. Turkey said other ships would also depart Ukraine's ports through safe corridors in line with the deal last month, signed in Istanbul between Moscow and Kyiv, but did not provide further details.
The agreement cleared the way for Ukraine - known as the breadbasket of Europe - to export 22 million tons of grain and other agricultural goods that have been stuck in Black Sea ports.
