HOW do you beat Novak Djokovic? It is an age-old riddle most have failed to answer at Wimbledon.
The seven-time champion cruised into the second round yesterday, dropping just five games against Vit Kopriva, four weeks after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus.
Lying in wait for him in the second round tomorrow is British No13 Jacob Fearnley, fresh out of college and having burst onto the tennis scene this summer in some style.
The 22-year-old, ranked outside the top 500 at the start of last month but now up to 277th and rapidly rising yet higher, won the Challenger event in Nottingham and was another late British winner last night, defeating Alejandro Moro Canas 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 in his first-round match.
Djokovic, who wore a brace on his right knee during his victory yesterday, has lost just once at Wimbledon in his last five outings at the tournament, narrowly edged out in last year’s classic final by Carlos Alcaraz.
