EU fears as far-Right claims Italy poll victory

FAR-RIGHT leader Giorgia Meloni was today on course to become Italy's first female prime minister - and head the country's most Right-wing government since Benito Mussolini.

Near final election results showed her Brothers of Italy party was predicted to win the biggest share of the vote with around 26 per cent of the ballot.

The result will cause alarm in European capitals and financial markets will scrutinise her early moves given her eurosceptic past and her allies' ambivalent position on Russia. Italy is the EU's third-biggest economy.
