England run into early trouble with title defence on the line

ENGLAND were this morning facing an uphill battle to save their desperate World Cup defence after Angelo Mathews and some hapless running gave Sri Lanka early breakthroughs in Bangalore.
The contest is effectively a must-win for England, whose record ODI defeat by South Africa last weekend was their third in four matches at the start of the group stage, and another top-order failure left Jos Buttler’s side struggling again on 77 for four inside 15 overs.
Buttler had blundered in electing to bowl first in the Mumbai heat against the Proteas and unsurprisingly opted to bat when winning the toss this morning.
